Minecraft as it was meant to be played…
I have seen a few skins and mods that adapt how it looks, makes it look a bit more realistic .. but I am an 8-bit girl, I love the nostalgic appearance of basic ‘out of the box’ Minecraft.
Not saying I dont apreciate the effort that goes into making that kind of mod, but its pure MC for me. pass me my MC hammer =P .. except it would be more like an MC Pick and he wasn’t a muso in the 80’s …
The first thing I did was shape my cave somewhat to make it a bit neater. Then found a better cave further up the hill. Then spent a few (gamedays) carving out the hillside between the two caves with my wooden spade. I was very proud of my first ‘stairway’.
This 2 cave hill became my home base. And in time, my first castle. Awwww
(After I hollowed it out and shaped it up and changed it completely :P)
I wish I had taken screenshots of my area before I started working on it.
The first wooden door I made thrilled me to bits. I was past ‘bricking myself in every night with dirt’, I had a real home, with a real door. I was Safe.
Whats that hissing sound?
Stupid creepers kept dropping down on me first thing in the morning. They would spawn on the hill side above my door and when I opened it all bright eyed and eager to begin my day …
I got so pissed off about my front door getting constantly blown to smithereens I /ragequit and stomped downstairs to complain (a perfectly acceptable procedure for dealing with game issues in this house).
Other Flatmate patiently listened to me bitching.
“Why don’t you build an overhang over your doorway?”
Quietly sidled back upstairs.
Minecraft wins …
My flatmates played Minecraft for a few months while I was immersed in Sims3, or the end of WoW. (I dont care what anyone says, Cata was the last straw). I glanced at their screen occasionally and wondered what the appeal was. It looked blocky and kinda simple.
I was healing a broken heart and needed something that was easy to digest but would keep me entertained without having to do too much thinking. I browsed around the website (http://www.minecraft.net/) and gave the ‘creative’ game a go. This was free and no risk. You could place blocks to your hearts content. Still not convinced I started building a castle. About an hour later I realised that I couldn’t save it. I bought it. It cost me $20au. I figured it was worth it to support an indie game that was not just another dump from a massively bloated self important company *koff*EA*koff*
I loaded a new world and walked around for awhile.
I saw a spider walking around and I freaked a little as I had no weapons, nothing. My flatmate heard me squeek and came to investigate. He guided me through the first day and when it started going dark herded me to a cave that I had found.
I didn’t survive the first night. Apparently this is a common scenario.
I dirt walled myself in but left a window so I could tell when it had come daylight again. A silver thing moved across it and I freaked out. “Whats that?!” I squealed in horror. A night of zombies, exploding bushes and spiders had me on edge.
“It’s the moon”
Finally day broke, the undeads burst into flame and it was safe to walk around again.
This is my story.
